Sweden Has Officially Arrived
Even our beloved Stieg could not have foreseen the events that Tattoo would cause to implode within Hollywood. The incredulity that American readers seethed was not ill-placed. The subjects that Larsson dealt with would cause taut conversation anywhere: a milieu of distasteful, but bitingly real, sins of human nature.
But it was the girl in the crunching leather that would fascinate readers,...

Americans Hungry for More Than "Swedish Fish?"
Knew that was going to blow up as soon as we saw Mikael Nyqvist in the latest Die Hard-esque film, Abduction.
Not to mention we have seen Noomi Rapace floating around Tinseltown…oh wait…have we?
Oh yeah, there she is! And the Annie Oakley getup was a nice touch.
It is safe to say that most of America knows that David Fincher is coming out swinging this holiday season with a...

The Phantom at the Window
I will never forget what my neighbor said that morning…
I can’t get rid of that image, it just won’t leave me alone.
I can still see it, lingering, never going away.
We must be knit together pretty well. To wake up, knowing what happened or not, feeling the same thing as your neighbors, friends, relatives. I was 10 at the time, the gauzy shadows were still long and creeped...

Going, going...no where.
A smallish person occupies shotgun, half asleep, half trying to read an interesting bio on a radical while 'hmming' responses to the driver en route to irritation.
Driver: So, a dead guy now, huh? Too bad. Young?
Shotgun Shogun: Uh, yeah. It's too bad. Fifties maybe.
Driver: I'm sorry about that deer. I'd rather it be him than you if I had swerved.
SS: (driver's attempt at a loving condolence goes over her head): You could have stopped.
Driver: At 35 mi?? That's impossible, you know that! Or if you're a tree hugger you wouldn't. You are, aren't you?
SS: (sigh) Nooo, I am not. I just don't like losing sleep. (wears stiff upper lip of diffidence)
A kaleidoscope of autumn pines breaks along the side of the road, up from the dusty boredom of hayweed and common, lacey wildflowers. The little mustard seed in front of them poked along steadily, a girl with huge, bubblegum-pink sunglasses turns to gawk now and then. The dog she holds up to the window is the size of the fawn, his eyes just as soft. Softer than his owner who thinks others cannot see her glares behind the glasses. Silly people.
The driver beats the steering wheel...
Driver: You call this 50 mph?!?! Paddle. the. peddle. on. the. RIGHT. Sweet mother of...
He steers clear over the line, nearly clipping the mustard seed and its goggling passengers.
